It’s great to create a new look for the new school year - I use bunting / banners not only to create a real German look and feel in the learning environment, but also to promote everyday language and core vocabulary for learners of all ages. Bunting works well throughout the entire school year, but definitely has a celebratory back to school feel! The bunting has a small tag that you can clip to a line of string across the room (like a washing line!), or to a wall. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 25 high-frequency German verbs in the imperfect tense. The quick conjugations have always been really popular with my students, who find them a great way of practising, reinforcing and revising how to conjugate essential verbs in German. I’ve used them in a range of contexts too, such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons. I give my students regular opportunities to work through the same conjugations until they feel confident about how German conjugation ‘works’, and are able to recognize patterns and so predict conjugation accurately. The workbook is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. We also use it to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really popular and effective activity too. It’s also a great place to note any additional high-frequency verbs that students learn, and this helps to build up a really strong verb vocabulary bank. answer key Try this free conjugation sampler to see if it’s the kind of learning activity that will work well for your students: GERMAN CONJUGATION PRACTICE FREE SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-conjugation-practice-sampler-12149140 Have a browse in my store for more German grammar activities, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning resources, with dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies too! I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. This list is a first collection of 25 high-frequency German adjectives that I’ve found are ideal for beginner German into intermediate German learning programs - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful German adjectives vocabulary bank, are able to recognize German adjectives, and are confident with the meaning of those adjectives in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at adjectival endings and agreement, producing more complex and descriptive language, and using the adjectives in a communicative and practical context, which is essential for progressing in language learning. The purpose of the list isn’t to simply learn all 25 adjectives by rote: it’s a longer-term reference resource that students use for example when they’re writing creatively, preparing written texts, or working with their talk partner to develop speaking skills. My students also use their vocabulary reference lists to help them audit their developing German vocabulary in general. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on adjectives in German for your students, the list is a good starting point. There are two alphabetical lists - one German-English, and one English-German, as I’ve found that language learners prefer to have both as a reference resource. I give my students of all grades and learning phases a whole series of reference lists, that build up into a really comprehensive reference bank over the course of their German program. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their German when they have a good grasp of core vocab. They’re great for quick vocab quizzes too. There are two alphabetical lists - one German-English, and one English-German, as I’ve found that beginner German students prefer to have both as a reference resource. I’ve noted where a verb is separable, irregular or conjugated with sein. If my group is small, I provide students with a set of double-sided and laminated reference resources. My students all have a reference file or folder, again from the beginning of their learning, and part of helping them develop independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, is to give them opportunity to keep their learning resources in good order, and easily accessible. The verbs are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency German reflexive verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. There are 18 breakfast items in this word wall - we may not actually have all the items in our learning plan, but we use them for developing language skills and awareness in general. I’ve used the definite article, a range of masculine, feminine and neuter, singular and plural. We look at cognates and near cognates, and discuss breakfast, and what we like to eat, or we’d like to try - it’s important to use word walls as a real learning resource, not just to use them as a visual display - for example, I use them for vocab guessing games or quizzes, and spelling games. I rotate word walls regularly, ‘going back’ to language we met at earlier points in the school year. The breakfast items are: = bacon = yoghurt = cup of coffee = cereal = jam = pancakes = croissant = waffles = porridge = orange juice = milk = boiled egg & boiled eggs (useful for looking at singular/plural differences) = fried egg = toast = bread rolls = syrup = tea There are two headers: Guten Appetit! and Das Frühstück- creating their own headers, or adding to the items is a great language learning activity too. There are two cards per 8.5 x 11 (A4) page in landscape format - the words are definitely big enough for children to be able to read from various locations in the classroom. I encourage my beginner German students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organising their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string). I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The workbook is really versatile, and ideal for advanced intermediate French and advanced French A students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic texts, which feature a broad range of tenses. It focuses on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, and I’ve found that when my students are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their conjugation skills are developing well. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different contexts - homework, holiday refresher and revision work, sub lessons and so on. French reflexive verbs can be quite tricky, particularly for students whose first language does not have a similar reflexive verb group. Though the workbooks focus solely on the correct conjugation of verbs, and does not look at word order in the context of full sentences, there are conjugation patterns that students can learn, recognise and apply, ensuring that their***spoken and written French*** is accurate, and that their understanding of French across the***skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing*** is robust. The resource has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French. This list is a collection of 25 high-frequency English verbs that students will meet in the beginning to intermediate stages of English learning programs. Students can challenge themselves multiple times, simply by covering over previous responses, which means we’re able to get a lot of use from a single book, saving both prep time and paper. The workbook is ideal for advanced French students, and as a refresher and vocabulary audit for those moving into KS5 A Level French. For UK teachers, these are roughly GCSE / Standard / age 16 examinations moving into advanced level, all examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, Eduqas, SQA). There are four written recall challenges in the workbook: Written Recall Challenge One all four hundred adjectives in alphabetical order French-English - students are prompted for the English translation of a French adjective Written Recall ChallengeTwo this challenge also requires students to write the English translation from a French prompt, but the adjectives are in random, rather than alphabetical order - students often learn new vocabulary in alphabetical order, so this can be great practice in recall Written Recall Challenge Three the four hundred adjectives are in alphabetical order English-French - students give the French translation of an English adjective Written Recall Challenge Four with this challenge, the English adjective prompts are in random order, and students give the French translation The challenges work well together, and we do revisit them regularly over quite a long period of time. When students are very focused on particular vocabulary, they’re able to embed the vocabulary really successfully, and feel confident using it in a wide range of contexts. It’s useful to work on creative writing in French regularly too, so that students can apply their French practically, and I encourage them to use a wide range of adjectives, thinking about synonyms too. It’s useful to give the book to advanced beginner French students too, as it provides a language road map with learning goals, outlining the adjectives they should ideally know by a specific stage in their learning. I create a lot of language learning reference books for my languages students, they’re really popular with my students, who like to have a bank of reference resources for both initial learning and longer-term learning and revision. There are 42 pages in the book, and all 400 adjectives are listed alphabetically French-English and English-French. Each adjective is also shown in the masculine, feminine, singular and plural forms, which my students find really helpful as they begin to engage with gender agreement in French. I use the reference book for quick vocabulary quizzes too - either I or a nominated student shouts out a French or English adjective, with teams giving the corresponding French or English adjective - I’ve found this is a really successful way of avoiding more formal vocabulary tests, while still providing students with frequent opportunity to refresh and embed essential French vocabulary. The adjectives are useful for engaging with the following topics and themes: youth, identity & lifestyle : fashion : culture, customs and traditions relationships and family : technology and social media : sport, health and fitness free time, hobbies and interests : entertainment and leisure : food and drink France and French-speaking countries : local, national & international global areas of interest : transport : holidays, tourism and travel : environment, pollution, recycling and climate : social issues : school, college, current and future study : work experience, skills and personal qualities : employment, ambitions and career plans Have a browse in my store for more French vocabulary reference books, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning resources, with French dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. Perfect for developing French language skills in general, as well as for practicing and revising numbers 0-21 in French. There are 36 differentiated questions, answer key, recording sheet and number reference sheet. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities. There’s also a question card template for students to apply language creatively and practically, which is an essential aspect of successful language learning, and is also a really popular activity with my students. Task cards are really versatile too - we use them not only when we’re focusing on the target vocabulary, but throughout the year for sub lessons, as entrance and exit tickets, refreshers and free-choice learning. The goal is not simply to learn and practice how to count in French, but also to enjoy working with language, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, ensuring a scaffolded learning experience for students. All the questions are in French, including a range of French math language. Students may not necessarily engage with that at this stage of their learning, so I use math symbols as visual clues and prompts, enabling students to infer meaning from context. This is a key language learning skill in general, which is important for students to develop as quickly as possible. The resource comprises the following non-editable files in a zipped format: 36 differentiated question cards 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they cards are far more learner-friendly, and last for absolutely years answer recording sheet we mostly use class notebooks for recording answers, as this saves prep time and paper, though recording sheets are really useful for more formal assessment purposes answer key helps students develop more independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, and also give them an additional opportunity to engage with language question card template students apply their knowledge practically and creatively, which is an essential element in successful language learning number reference sheet MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON APPRENTISSAGE !

Perfect for young learners of French and an ideal introduction to the animal kingdom in French. They provide lots of opportunities to learn a range of animals, both***masculine and feminine***, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of introducing the concept of gender, and of looking at the indefinite article in French too. It doesn’t matter is any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with French, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using both visual clues and prompts, as well as linguistic indicators. There are 24 animals featured, across a series of decks, which enable you to vary and differentiate your games: Deck 1: picture and words cards, with both an image of, and the word for, the animal in French, which is useful for multi-skill learning, particularly in the introductory phase of learning animal vocabulary, and for familiarising students with the written word in French.
